Home Fire Safety Tips
- Install a smoke alarm on every level of your home
- Test your smoke alarms monthly
- Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year
- Practice a home escape plan frequently with your family
- Never open doors that are hot to the touch
- Have two escape routes from each room when possible

Child Fire Safety Tips
- Show children how to crawl low on the floor, below the smoke, in case of fire
- Keep matches and lighters in a secured drawer or cabinet
- Teach children to get out quickly and to stay out in case of fire
- Practice a home fire escape plan with your children and designate a meeting place outside
- Teach children the nature of fire: hot, fast, dark and deadly!
- Teach children not to hide from firefighters
- Supervise young children closely
- Familiarize children with the sound of your smoke alarm
- Demonstrate to children how to stop, drop to the ground, and roll if their clothes catch fire
- Bring your children to your local fire station
